A Series of Events

Art of Aging - 2nd Wednesday of the month
Art of Death & Dying - 4th Wednesday of the month
Sponsored & Hosted by
THE HOFFMAN CENTER FOR THE ARTS
594 Laneda Ave, Manzanita, Oregon
Aging and Death are topics our culture doesn’t want to talk about.... Mostly doesn’t even know how to talk about. Which is exactly why we need to....

The purpose of the Aging/Death & Dying conversations is to help each other get over fears by sharing experiences and discovering resources for coping with life's inevitable end....

Please note: There is no particular sequence to these sessions.
Content is based on availability of speakers and our own inspirations and needs.

Contact us if there is a topic you would like to present or would like to see covered or repeated.... Or if you would like yo get on our mailing list to be informed of future events.

Upcoming Sessions 2019

Art of Death and Dying Sessions -  We archived a particularly detailed discussion around preparing for one's own death: Death, it happens…What you can do Now! And one on Holistic Estate Planning. Check them out.

Sometimes we have formal speakers:
  • Our own Claudia Johnson on doing memorial services
  • The Directors of the state Hospice organization and later the local Tillamook County Hospice Staff
  • The state Death with Dignity organization
  • Holly Pruitt from Portland's Death Cafe and The Death Talk Project multiple times.
  • Lane deMoll on the Shamanic Aspects of Death
  • Kathleen Moore reported on the Maui Death Doula conference she attended
  • Paula Sansum on End of Life Choices and later we showed a film about a couple who chose to die together - Living and Dying: A Love Story
  • Paula also did a session on caregiving.

Sometimes we just talk  in small groups in open-ended conversations about whatever comes up. There will be a bunch of these kinds of sessions in 2019.

Once we even did art - personal collages about death in August 2017.

The  Weavers of the Death and Dying Series have also initiated The Raven Project to host small  open-ended conversations in people's homes, sponsor information sharing via this website, and establish an on-going support network.  In May 2019 we curated an art show called Art About Aging.
